Revision to confusing statements

We often get calls from patients who are confused about their statements. The problem stems from the fact that the statement breaks out the previous balance as a separate entity on the statement. But it is not included in the line items for the statement. As a result, the Total Charges on the statement is less than it should be. Because patients miss this fact, when they subtract the Total Credits from the Total Charges, they think their account should have a credit. But that is only because they are failing to add the Previous Balance to the Total Charges. Can we add the previous balance as the first line item on statements? That way, the totals at the bottom of the statement will reflect true totals and the math will work out properly. When you subtract the Total Credits from the Total Charges, you should get the Total Balance. As it is now, the math often isn't correct, so patients call us confused.
